APPLICATIONS
Mining is one of the most grueling environments on ropes and pendants. In order to transmit raw power into cubic yards moved, your entire rope system must be rugged, reliable and designed to fit your job. Union ARA-BOOM aramid fiber mid-boom pendants have demonstrated 10 to 15 times the life expectancy of wire rope or strand used as mid-boom pendants on Bucyrus/Marion style draglines due to their improved resistance to tension-tension fatigue.
When shipped, Union mid-boom assemblies include bend restrictors to protect the assemblies during installation.

Rope failures, often caused by debris falling onto ropes above the dipper, have been a persistent challenge in the surface mining industry. To address this issue, customers have frequently explored a variety of methods to protect the vulnerable areas where these failures occur.
Gladiator Shield is specifically designed for use with our Tuf Max and Gladiator Hoist Ropes. It is applied to the section of the rope that lies above the dipper of the shovel. Its primary function is to protect this critical area from rock damage. Although it is not a strength member of the rope, Gladiator Shield serves tosafeguard the polymer and outer wires, enhancing the longevity and durability of the rope.
Available in diameters ranging from 2-1/4” to 2-7/8”, Gladiator Shield provides an essential layer of protection for high-performance hoist rope systems.
TESTED TO PERFORM
NOTICEABLE IMPROVEMENTS
Through trials conducted at a U.S. mine using Union Gladiator Hoist Rope, noticeable improvements were observed in the rope sections protected by Gladiator Shield. The addition of Gladiator Shield not only contributes to a longer service life but also provides a valuable solution to mitigate rope failures and ensure the reliability of rope systems in such critical applications.
